Open source. Virtual world text client.

METAbolt is an open source (fully accessible using JAWS) messenger type application (text client) for the metaverse (virtual worlds). It has most of the functions that a viewer has but just not the graphics (excluding the feature to view individual objects and HUDs in 3D). Hence you can perform most of the tasks you are able to with a viewer.

METAbolt has been in existence for over 3 years and has a thriving user base of 200K+ people worldwide with which it is closely knitted in terms of development and direction. The METAbolt user community is the main driving factor behind the project. The METAbolt project is very active in the sense that improvements are made and new features are added on a regular basis.

Second Life TPVD (Third Party Viewer Directory) listed.

METAbolt is a Second Life Third Party Directory (TPVD) listed text client and conforms to Second Life ToS.

METAbolt is a very light weight, highly configurable and powerful cross grid application. It is possible to run multiple instances with minimal impact to the machine and internet connection it is running on. Although the application is primarily developed for the Second Life grid, it will work on other grids based on OpenSimulator. A list of popular OpenSimulator grids can be found here.

Power & control. Less computing resources.

METAbolt is highly configurable via it's "application preferences" so that it can be adjusted to work perfectly for a multitude of different requirements. It's ability to connect to SIMs and rezz is extremely fast and the application itself has a very small memory and internet bandwidth usage footprint on the machine it is working on.

METAbolt is ideal (but not restricted) to the following types of requirements:

You are connecting from work and not allowed (or can't) to run a viewer
You have a low powered computer which can't run a viewer
You want to connect to SL vith a machine that doesn't have a graphics card
You have a low speed (e.g. dial-up) or metered internet connection and you can't/don't want to run a viewer
You don't need to run a viewer but need to be connected to SL for communication or other purposes
You need to run model, group inviter, security etc bots
You are on the move and have limited resources (e.g. you don't want to run your laptop battery down)
You need features that are not possible and/or don't exist in viewers
You need accessibility
