I'm using Metabolt on my new PC (64-bit Win7 Home Premium) and all the text in my Tiny Empires HUD now shows up as white instead of black like it used to on the old PC (32-bit Windows XP SP3). I am using the graphics card from my old PC (nvidia GEforce 9500 GT) and have updated all the drivers. It's really annoying since I can't read the white text. Any ideas?

Have you tried disabling mipmaps? If you have then I am in trouble :S

P.S. Can you email me a screenshot. Thx

OK, here's what I tried in order....

1. Disabled 3D Vision in driver.

2. Disabled as many 3D features as I could in driver.

3. Uninstalled nVidia drivers completely. Used basic Windows driver. Changed resolutions to VGA even.

4. Tried different desktop themes with basic windows driver.

5. Tried playing with fonts for different windows.

6. Reinstalled older nVidia drivers.

Nothing worked. I still see white text on the HUD. With the regular viewer in SL, the HUD text is actually a medium green color and not black. So maybe something is deciding it's light enough to make it white? I have no clue. Frustrating since this all worked fine on my WinXP-32 box with the same exact graphics card and approximate driver version (although not 64-bit obviously).

That is surprising. Removing the nVidia Desktop manager and a reboot should have resolved the situation.

Using the instructions @ http://www.metabolt.net/...raphics_card_you_have_5

1. What is your DirectX version? (at the bottom on the System tab)
2. What is the "Approx. Total Memory" on the Display tab?

@Everyone: Can anyone that is using a nvidia GEforce 9500 GT card and who doesn't have this problem please run the DirextX Diagnostic Tool (as explained in the above) and provide information in the "Device" and "Drivers" section of the Display tab pls so that we can help Snickers and anyone else who might experience this problem now or in the future.

Thx

Apparently, someone using Radegast is having the same issue as I have with Metabolt.

I'm seeing this too with a Nvidia GTX280 on Win XP 32 bit running the latest NVidia driver and latest METABolt.

With Tiny Empires and Tiny Empires 3000 (any mix of compact/standard and normal/Federation for TE) I am seeing one or other of three distinct failure modes but never correct rendering.

Mode 1 - the edges of the display panel which should be transparent are instead plotted (mostly) solid black with various random coloured "noise". Text is correctly rendered in the right colours. This is the most usable of the failure modes :)

Mode 2 - the transparency around the edge is correctly rendered but all displayed text is white

Mode 3 (only seen with Tiny Empires non-compact Federation hud and TE3000 compact) - as mode 2 except the text is very pale grey and unreadable at some zoom settings with TE which has a beige backdrop but still readable against the dark backdrop of TE3000

Over a period of time mode 2 failures seem to convert to mode 1.

Seasons Greetings,

Was that the case when you could control mipmaps from Application/Preferences or is this something new?

Hi,

Going back to v53, I get mode 2 behaviour (transparency is transparent, text is white), with or without the mipmaps toggle on.

Some more observations having gone back to v56.

Displayed 3D windows can switch from one failure mode to another. Windows start in mode 2 or mode 3 (though I mostly have only seen mode 3 on startup with the TE Federation non-compact HUD; changing to compact usually guarantees a mode 2 start).

Failure mode can spontaneously change; often this occurs when the window gets refreshed, and in particular it can occur when another 3D window for the same avatar is updated.

I'm going to send two screenshots via email. One is TE, showing the white text and correct transparency. The other is TE3K which started the same but changed to mode 1 while I was clicking in TE (ie TE3K rendering changed during interaction with TE window). This is what I'm calling mode 1 where transparency hasn't rendered transparent but the text is now the right colours.

regards

Chorazin

I noticed the HUD issue with MB when I installed it on my new computer which runs Windows 7 64-bit (nVidia integrated graphics). It continued to work on my old computer (XP 32-bit). Switching my graphics card (nVidia 9500 GT) over from my old computer to the new one made no difference. Also, if my screen blanker goes into effect, frequently the HUD will go into a mode where the text is no longer white but like a transparent white. Barely visible. I can close the 3D view and re-open it and it will again be white on the parchment scroll-looking background, but then it will quickly turn transparent again. Once that starts to happen, I have to log Windows completely and restart to at least get the white text back permanently.

Also, the little clock face that shows the passage of the day has never shown up correctly for me in Metabolt (or Radegast). You can barely make out the pie slice that shows the passage of time. It's normally a very dark and obvious moving pie slice in any of the standard viewers.
