Just a suggestion to make a version for Android devices.
A text based client like METAbolt would be perfect for this, and a lot of people would find it incredibly useful to be able to log in from anywhere.

I hear you and totally agree. However we do not have the man power/time for this as our (core METAbolt Team) current priorities lies elsewhere. If there are any programmers out there that are willing to take this on with our support and branding I would be more than happy to talk to them.

It's probably worth pointing out that there already exists a client for android. It's not as powerful as metabolt in several significant ways, however, it is most likely adequate for most people's needs. Having said that, I'd gladly help to port and test, because the ability to access hud attachments is important to me, and is lacking from the existing product.

For the last 6 months or so I have been working on my own i.e. 1 developer is poorly and the other has left SL. For that reason I can't actively take part (on a daily basis) on such a project as it would limit my time for METAbolt (PC version). My RL is also very busy. However if you are able to pick this up and take it forward including taking leadership...I will support you on the condition that everything goes through my approval process. That's not because I am a control freak but purely because if I am to provide the METAbolt brand there are laws and TPV conditions I have to make sure are satisfied.

Thx

An Android Metabolt would be cool (from my perspective owning an Android phone). The one viewer available is not open source, not TPV approved and he charges an ongoing license fee for it.

Luke, I totally understand the implications of needing to go through you for changes. Even in the absence of TPV requirements, I have been around the block a few times with open source projects, it wouldn't bother me if it is that you are a control freak ;)

I'm pretty sure I don't have the programming tools in place to do much. I'm also not much of a programmer in the first place, though I can understand most C and c++ that I read, at least enough to get myself into trouble.

I also don't have tons of time to devote to this project, but I'm interested enough in it that I'm willing to devote such time as I can to it. If there's a start of a framework in progress, then that's a lot more progress than I've done in the last 6 months. ("gee, it would be really nice if..." :p I had heard that there was work in progress on this front, so I was content to bide my time; then I checked in here and realized maybe it's not as progressing as I had hoped)

So with that glowing resume in mind, what's the next step?

Well, there are several issues. Firstly I am not familiar with the Android environment so first I have to get familiar...this will take time. Secondly I (if no one else steps forward) will probably have to get the framework going and again this will take time as that is probably the most time consuming of all. Once the framework is in place the rest is pretty easy and straight forward.

I need to sleep on this for a while longer. IM me inworld if you wish to discuss and I will respond as soon as I can.

the only drawback to my android tablet (acer a500) is I miss second life.
At work I can usually log into my facebook, messenger but I miss my groups, sl friends.

I wish I could lend a hand to such a worthy project. Since metabolt is already a linden approved
client it would be a great addition to the android market and i wouldn't mind paying to support it..
As long as it wasn't a monthly fee, like the other program mentioned earlier.

hopeful,
Geo

I will be looking into the Android area at some stage. For the moment "unfortuantely" Windows comes too natural. I believe it will help the Android development in the future.

"METAbolt 7" which is the Windows Phone 7 version of METAbolt has now gone into BETA testing before it is released into the Microsoft Marketplace:

http://www.windowsphone....-43bb-b898-b23f421fce9d

If you have a Windows Phone 7 mobile and would like to give the application a try (free) you will need to IM me your email address linked to your Live account so that I can add you to the BETA marketplace for a download.

The system will not have a monthly charge and it will not use a third party server in anyway. You will need to run your own PC/Server software which means it will be efficient secure and TPV complaint. When the application is released after the BETA testing you will pay a one off fee to purchase (price will be very low) the system and that's it.

Thx
