If your computer freezes when you open Object Manager the cause is one or more of the below reasons:

  • You have too many avatars logged in at the same time
  • Your "Radar range" and/or "Object select range" in "Application/Preferences" is too high

In either case you are consuming all your bandwidth and the required data from SL is not coming through to your machine, which is what's causing the freezing. To over come this problem you need to adjust (reduce) the "Radar range" and the "Object select range" settings to a comfortable level at which your machine stops freezing. To do this follow these steps:

  • From the "Application" menu at the top right hand corner select the "Preferences" menu option
  • The "General" tab is the default and that's what will be displayed. You will realise a slider control for the "Radar range" and another slider control for the "Object select range". Sliding these controls to the left will reduce the setting and sliding them to the right will increase them. You can see the values they change from the textboxes next to them
  • Set the "Radar range" to 32
  • Set "Object select range" to 15

This should resolve your freezing problem now. You can experiment with these settings to find the maximum value you can set these to without causing freezing.
