Broadcast IMs to your groups
GIM is a METAbolt plugin developed by
Legolas Luke. The idea of developing this plugin was provided by METAforums member
Mystickatdaddy so all credits to him on this subject. GIM is a free plugin that allows you to broadcast IMs to one or more groups of your choice. The plugin offers the ability to broadcast IMs in 2 different ways:
1. Manually type in your message, event, news, advertisement and send it to one or more groups you have selected at an interval you have chosen
2. Prepare your message/s in an XML file which you can define in the plug-in, select your broadcast interval and the plug-in will broadcast each message in the XML file in turn to one or more groups you have selected.
Here is a quick walkthrough of the plugin:
NOTE: DO NOT INCLUDE SPECIAL CHARACTERS INTO YOUR MESSAGES.
1. Select a group you want from the list on the top left hand corner
2. Click on the "add" button at the bottom of the list and your selection will appear in the list at the bottom left hand
corner. Repeat this for as many groups as you require

| Once the group/s you have selected have started a group IM session, they will appear in the "Select groups" list box below the "Available Groups" list. Until they appear in this list you can't start broadcasting. Depending on the SIM you are in, your internet connection and/or SL issues, joining groups could take time. |
3. Type in your message or advert etc into the "Message" textbox
4. If you want to send it manually then simply click on the "Send Now" button. Otherwise select the time interval you wish your message to be sent
5. Click on the "Start" button
6. To stop the broadcast at any time click on the "Stop" button
Your message will now be sent to each group you have selected at the interval you have defined.

| While a broadcast timer is running you can click on the "Send now" button at any time and as many times as you need to send the message there and then. The manual send function is independant of the running timer interval and will not affect it. |
1. Select a group you wanty from the list on top left hand corner

3. Click on the "Select" button under the "Automated" tab and select your XML file which contains all the messages you want to broadcast
4. Select the time interval you wish your messages to be sent
5. Click on the "Start" button
Each message in your XML file will now be sent to each of the groups you have selected in turn at the intervals you have defined.

The format of the XML file should be as below:

sample XML fileNote that the XML tags "<broadcasts>" and "<message>" are important and must not be changed. Simply enter your message between the "<message>" and "</message>" tags and save your file as XML. You can name the file to whatever you want.
Do not place the XML file in the "Extensions" folder. You can place it anywhere else you like.
Installation of the GIM plug-in
1. Unzip the GIM.ZIP file
2. Copy the gim.dll/exe into the "Extensions" folder in the Data Dir (User roaming folder). If you don't know where this folder is, go into About METAbolt from the "Help" menu in METAbolt and you will find it there.
3. Log into SL
4. Select the "GIM" menu option under the "Plugins" menu in METAbolt
NOTE: The above steps apply to installing any plugin and not just GIM.

INFORMATION and T&Cs¶
Plugins are not a part of the METAbolt application. They run within METAbolt when they are started and for as long as they are running. If a plugin e.g. GIM is running to send group IMs and you close it down, GIMs whole operation will stop and you will need to retstart it and set it up to continue what it was doing.
GIM will open group IM windows within METAbolt. If you close these IM windows it may affect the operation of GIM and GIM may not function.
