From V 0.9.38.0 onwards, METAbolt is signed with a security certificate.

This is a certificate that can't be modified, copied, forged or imitated. By adding the corresponding METAbolt CA Certificate to the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" store of your computer user account you will increase your security by enabling your system to:

a. Ensure the software you are installing/upgrading is from Legolas Luke (METAbolt)
b. The software was not altered after Legolas Luke released it

Once you have installed the METAbolt CA Certificate, every time you install, upgrade or remove METAbolt you will be presented with a UAC (User Account Control) warning which confirms the publisher is METAbolt...instead of the usual Orange "unknown publisher" one:

UAC on a PC that doesn't have the METAbolt CA Certificate installed:

Important
WHEN YOU HAVE THE METABOLT CA CERTIFICATE INSTALLED, YOU KNOW THAT IF THE "VERIFIED PUBLISHER" IS NOT METABOLT, YOU ARE NOT INSTALLING GENUINE METABOLT!

Installing the METAbolt CA Certificate

1. Download the METAbolt Certificate by clicking here

2. Unzip the file and place METAbolt.cer (the certificate) on your desktop

3. Double click the certificate, a dialog opens up

4. Click on the Install Certificate button

5. From the Certificate Import Wizard which will appear, click on the button labelled Next

6. Select the "Place all certificates in the following store" option and click on the "Browse" button

7. Select the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" option from the list and click on the OK button

8. You will be back on the Certificate Import Wizard. Click on the "Next" button

9. On the next screen that will appear click on the "Finish" button

That's it! From there on each time you install METAbolt software unless the "Verified publisher" on the UAC warning is "METAbolt" it is not a genuine METAbolt release.

Removing the METAbolt CA Certificate

To REMOVE the certificate follow the steps below:

1. Navigate to Control Panel

2. Internet Options > Content > Certificates

3. Select the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" tab

4. Scroll down the list to Legolas Luke or METAbolt and select it by clicking on it once

5. Click on the Remove button
