If METAbolt crashes after a few seconds you launch it there are 3 areas you need to look at in the sequence as described below:

Quick System Maintenance

The problem could be 1 or all of the reasons below:

1. You don't have the required .NET framework installed

2. Windows was updated either by Microsoft or some other software and needs a reboot

3. Your Windows is not patched up with the latest Microsoft updates

To eliminate all 3 follow the steps below:

1. You need to have ".NET 3.5 SP1" installed and not ".NET 3.5" (this is a common mistake). Click here for the download URL to .NET 3.5 SP1.

2. Make sure that your Windows is fully patched up with the latest MS updates. Go to the Microsoft Update site and check to make sure

3. Remove METAbolt from programs in Control panel

4. Go to "c:\program files" (or wherever you installed METAbolt) and delete the folder named "METAbolt"

5. Reboot the PC/laptop

6. Install METAbolt once again from the web site.

METAbolt should now work as expected. If it still doesn't work then follow the instructions below:

Firewall and/or anti virus software

Vista & Win 7 platforms

1. Start menu/Control Panel/Windows Firewall

2. Then click on the "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall" option on the left.

3. CLick on the "allow another program" button

4. Click on the "Browse" button and find "METAbolt.exe". If you have trouble finding it then search for it in the window that is open

4. Once you have found the file click on it to select it and then click on the "Open" button. You now have the file along with others in the "Add a Program" window. Select "Metabolt" by clicking on it and then click on the "Add" button

That's it. METAbolt is now included to be allowed in your firewall.

Windows XP platform

1. Start/Settings/Control Panel/Windows Firewall

2. Click on the "Exceptions" tab

3. Click on the "Browse" button on the window that will appear named "Add a Program" and locate "metabolt.exe" where it is installed. If you don't know the installation location of the file you will need to perform a search using Windows Explorer and copy the full path and paste it into the "look in" field on the "Browse" window. then simply select the file by clicking on it and hit the "Open" button.

4. METAbolt.exe will now appear in the list of applications on the "Add a Program" window. Select it by clicking on it then hit the "OK" button.

5. You will now be back on the "Windows Firewall" window and METAbolt should be listed within the list of software you see there. So click on the "OK" button to complete.

That's it. METAbolt is now included to be allowed in your firewall.

If the above doesn't resolve the situation follow the step below

Router/Network Problem

This is a simple process and last resort. So here we go:

1. Switch off your PCs/Laptops

2. Switch off your router (the device to which your internet line is connected to). If your router does not have an on/off switch then proceed to the step below

3. Unplug the power cable to your router and wait for 2 minutes.

4. Plug the power cable back in and start/power on the router

5. Swtich your PCs/Laptops back on

METAbolt should now work. If after this section you still can't get METAbolt to work you will need to seek help on the METAforums

Note

In all of the above the information provided is based on the official SL viewer i.e. secondlife.exe so naturally since you are trying to get METAbolt to work you need to apply the explained steps for "metabolt.exe" instead of "secondlife.exe"
